Our experience with Ryencloud was extremely disappointing, and we believe other Discord server owners should exercise serious caution before giving third parties high-level administrative access.
We trusted Samarth Gupta with administrative permissions on our Discord server for management-related purposes. After access was provided, our server experienced a serious destructive/nuke incident. Based on our server logs and our experience of what happened, we have significant concerns about how our server was handled during this period.
The damage caused considerable disruption to our community, server structure, channels, permissions, and overall setup. For us, this was a major breach of the trust and responsibility that comes with having administrative access.
Our concerns were not limited to the server incident. During our interactions, we also experienced behaviour that we considered disrespectful and unprofessional, including conduct that we felt was inappropriate toward elders.
We also encountered religion-related remarks/content that we considered offensive and unacceptable, as well as conversations and behaviour concerning girls/women that made us uncomfortable and did not reflect the respectful community standards we expected.
Regardless of anyone's personal views, when someone is trusted with access to another person's online community, we believe they should demonstrate professionalism, respect, accountability, and responsible handling of permissions.
Unfortunately, that was not our experience.
Our recommendation
We strongly recommend that Discord server owners do not blindly grant Administrator permissions to outside individuals or service providers. Use the minimum permissions necessary, keep audit logs enabled, maintain regular backups, review role permissions carefully, and make sure there is clear accountability before granting anyone access.
Based on our experience, we would not recommend Ryencloud. Anyone considering their services should conduct their own careful investigation and consider the potential risks before granting administrative access to their Discord server.
